On 6 May 2010, in the Department of Foundry, Silesian University of Technology took place in another, seventh edition organized annually by SINOGRAF science and technology conferences. This year's meeting was on "Modern materials and foundry technologies." The organizer of meetings, based in Torun SINOGRAF company is known in Poland, supplier of the highest quality materials for metallurgy, foundries and heavy industry. Party has provided substantive meetings and works closely with the principal organizer of the conference, Department of Foundry, Silesian University in Gliwice and the Department of Materials Technology of the Silesian University in Katowice.
Held annually, always at the beginning of May, meeting at the permanent etched into the schedule of major events of this kind in Poland. For they are events during which meets the world of science and industry. This year, organizers decided to move their meeting place in Lower Silesia, and thus on the terrain on which there are many famous and modern foundry. High rank held by SINOGRAF scientific meetings had resulted in this year's edition attracted great interest. Participation in it took 50 people representing over 30 best Polish enterprises.
During the meeting was divided into four sessions, during which eight were delivered of scientific and technical papers on a number of interesting and topical issues of modern materials and foundry technologies.
In the first session, Professor Miroslaw Cholewa from the Department of Foundry, Silesian University of Technology, presented a paper on "Modern refractory materials for casting aluminum alloys, copper and iron." The new refractory materials are presented in relation to metallurgical processes copper. In order to increase durability of refractory linings in metallurgical systems wylewowych in Huta Copper smelter was developed about 40 composition plastic compositions. Another paper by this session was the speech of Dr. Martin Stawarz from the Department of Foundry, Silesian University of Technology. He presented the unique in the country and located in the cathedral, a line of continuous cast iron casting with electromagnetic stirring-assisted liquid metal. Dr. Stawarz presented ongoing work on the application of the Convention forced the molten metal in the crystallizer is mounted in the continuous casting of cast iron.
The second plenary session began with Professor Joseph Śleziona Department of Materials Technology, Silesian University of Technology with paper Fri "Technology and the infiltration of porous preforms structures." In his speech, presented the characteristics of the methods of fabrication of composites using forced impregnation, the conditions of technology and design solutions. In the following articles and presented examples of composite materials obtained by. this technology.
Another report concerned the use of computer simulations in foundries. Dr. Dariusz Bartocha from the Department of Foundry, Silesian University of Technology, presented a program Fluent CFD 06/02/1916, which is used to analyze the solidification process of casting, motion studies of liquid metal in the form, and to determine whether and where in the cast may develop defects or stress. The proposed program allows detailed analysis of issues related to the movement of fluids, eliminating the need for time consuming and expensive experimental studies during the design cycle and modernization.
The third session began with Dr. John Jezierski Department of Foundry, Silesian University of Technology. The theme of his speeches were "Selected tools of quality management and optimization of production in the foundry." Dr Jezierski Seven Waters introduced the philosophy, based on the elimination of wasteful Seven reasons, among which are overproduction, waiting, unnecessary transport, over-complicated process, excess inventory, unnecessary motion and defects in products.Participants in the symposium were encouraged to use this method, which effectively improved the quality of manufacturing jobs. Professor Francis Binczyk, representing the Department of Materials Technology, Silesian University of Technology, has devoted his lecture, "The practical capabilities of thermal analysis ATD alloys. ATD Thermal analysis allows the assessment of the effects of modification of metals and alloys, but such assessment shall be the size of the degree of supercooling, defined on the basis of the graph of the derivative.Comparing the amount of undercooling present during crystallization of metal, you can determine the mechanism of unmodified impact modifier used. Surface active modifiers inhibit the process of crystal growth and thus increase the degree of undercooling of metal, while the modifiers zarodkotwórcze facilitate the process of crystallization, which is accompanied by reduction in the degree of supercooling during the crystallization of metal.
In the last session, Dr. Matthew Dyzia from the Department of Materials Technology, Silesian University of Technology, told the conference participants to "cast aluminum composites haterofazowych intended for piston air compressors." Applying slurry to produce composites with reinforcement haterofazowym, using SiC particles as reinforcement and glassy carbon helps to stabilize the coefficient of friction and reduces wear of friction partner. These properties can be used in the tribological system piston - cylinder, from which the required dimensional stability, strength and durability. Dr. George Kilarski, representing the Department of Foundry, Silesian University of Technology, presented a speech on "Applications of manganese steel castings at a very high wall thickness." Hadfield cast steel characterized and discussed the problem of thick-walled castings made of cast steel. Based on literature studies and own observations gave hints to the implementation of massive manganese steel castings and thick with high durability.
Occurrence of ending VII Science and Technology Conference Fri "Advanced Materials and Technologies Foundry" was a lecture by the director's SINOGRAF - Yaroslav Jelińskiego. The representative of the organizer of the meeting presented the main aspects of the philosophy of building the company's offer and presented it SINOGRAF full range - wide range of graphite products, ferroalloys (including modifiers and sferoidyzatorów), all types of seals (including complex mechanical seals), plastic materials, and others. Symposium ended general discussion and exchange of views, and the relationship of this event appeared in several industry magazines.
After the speeches, the speakers of the conference participants visited the laboratories of the Department of Foundry, in this modern line of continuous casting of cast iron - only in our country, acting on a technical university. This year's meeting was the culmination of an evening banquet, at which all the guests and speakers invited President SINOGRAF - Jacek Luczak.
Given such a strong interest in participating and seeing the need to meet industry representatives, the company is already planning next year's SINOGRAF meeting.Information concerning the date and subject of the next edition of the conference will be the beginning of next year on the website SINOGRAF and major business journals.
