Modified graphite expanding

Graphite is expanding the product of natural origin, is made from graphite ore in the process of enrichment, then be refined to pure graphite to strong oxidizing agents anddry acid is converted to graphite. During this process, there is a lattice of graphiteintercalation atoms of another element. Re-heating the modified graphite leads to the release interkalanta, breaking the bonds międzypłaszczyznowych and exfoliation of graphite crystals as a result, nano-aggregates formed grafenowe.
Graphite as a result of this transformation which is a consequence of heating andexfoliation, is the strong expansion in volume and turns into a soft, flexible andinsulating material called expanded-graphite or flexible. This material inherits manyimportant characteristics of flake graphite has high thermal and chemical resistance,is samosmarny, shields ultraviolet radiation and, well electrically conductive and aftercompression, and goods made of graphite, good heat conductors, are not subject tothe processes of aging and environmental influences. These characteristics meant that this type of graphite has gained a lot of sophisticated applications in engineering.

The main use as padding-inflammatory

EG-type graphite is used as a means of causing the increase in fire resistance to various types of insulation, plastics and coatings (flame retardant, flame retardant).EG 290 graphite structure of flake with a definite and stronger protectionist properties is intended as a supplement to cover the bituminous seal compartmentation and refractory coatings. Graphite is in addition to 20% in the whole mass of material, depending on the type of application. EG 096 The ground graphite with the consistency of icing is used as an additive in polymer plastics, elastomers, foams, for use directly as an admixture in an amount of 2 - 6%, possibly for use in liquid form.
Addition of graphite reduces the flammability of plastic EG on a combination of effects in several ways. In the initial phase of graphite increases the thermal conductivity of the material and work ekranująco to radiant heat and does not allow excessive heat, then the graphite swells and forms an insulating layer, in the end creates tight wyekspandowany graphite membrane to protect against oxygen and flames into the deeper layers of the material. Modified graphite EG has several advantages over traditional flame retardants, they are among others:

  • High productivity and a higher oxygen index was at the same additive.
  • High resistance and chemical inertness, and no risk of interaction with the material or catalyst.
  • Graphite as a mineral of natural origin are environmentally friendly, harmless and physiologically.
  • Graphite reacts quickly to heat or fire, already expanding at 150-200 ° C.
  • It does not contain halogen compounds and corrosive, does not emit dioxins and furans during smoking.
  • Do not lose property in a long time, or under the influence of external factors.
  • Withstands temperatures over 2500 ° C and is suitable for the protection of sensitive areas and equipment.

Other applications of flame retardants and expanding graphite
One of the traditional uses of graphite is expanding production of seals. Graphite in this case gives the flexibility of the sealing material, samosmarność, high thermal and chemical resistance. In this field, use the best species of large flakes of graphite and high purity as the 399th EG Directly to the manufacture of gaskets apply the graphite to form the intermediate filmand Graphite yarn from which it produces in various types of gaskets, rings andsealant. These materials must be free of contaminants such as sulfur and chloridesformed during the expansion and have additives corrosion inhibitors and oxidation. In metallurgy expanding graphite is used for coating and stabilizing the backfillexothermic risers. For these applications are designed more economical types ofgraphite, for example: EG 190, it shall apply the pure form or as a component incombination with another filling material.
